A salt system makes chlorine. It doesn't clean the pool, balance the water or diagnose itself.

What a salt pool still needs

  • Regular cleaning, the same as any pool
  • Water testing, including chlorine and pH
  • Salt readings where the system calls for them
  • Cell inspection and cleaning on the manufacturer's schedule
  • Attention to system alerts

Care vs. repair

Cleaning and testing are routine service. Repairing or replacing the salt cell, control board or wiring is equipment work for a licensed pool/spa contractor or electrician. See pool cleaning vs. repair in Florida.

Use your system's manufacturer manual for settings and salt levels. Don't change controls without verified readings.
