Pool is dirty after heavy rain or a storm
Storms fill pools with debris and change the water fast. The first job is an assessment: debris, clarity, readings and the equipment area.

After a storm, debris, runoff and heavy rain all affect the pool. If the equipment area flooded, stay away from it until it's checked.
What you might notice
- Leaves and debris in the pool
- Water level much higher
- Cloudy or discolored water
- Screen damage over the pool
- Flooded equipment area
Possible causes
Appearance alone doesn't identify the cause. These are the usual possibilities a pro checks:
Debris
Leaves, branches and screen material.
Rain dilution
Lowers sanitizer and shifts balance.
Runoff
Dirt and contaminants washed in.
Equipment damage
Flooding or power issues at the pad.
What you can safely do
- Photograph the pool and surroundings for insurance
- Keep swimmers out until the water is checked
- Stay away from flooded or damaged equipment and electrical panels
- Remove debris only if it's safe to reach
How a Uniform pool pro assesses it
We remove debris, test and record the water, note the equipment area's condition, and recommend recovery or repair. Electrical or equipment damage goes to licensed trades. See the storm pool care guide.
